American Forces Struck a 'Large Plant' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Providing Specifics.

Ex-President Trump has stated that US forces struck a "major installation" in the South American country last week. But, the former president offered no details on the precise purpose or site of the strike, and there has been no further comment from his administration.

Vague Comments Made In a Radio Show

"US forces just knocked out – I'm not sure if you read – they have a large facility, where the ships depart from. Recently, we destroyed it. So we struck them very hard," Trump allegedly said to GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Potential Implications of a Confirmed Attack

Should a US military action is confirmed, it would constitute the initial land strike since the Pentagon initiated a expansion of American military presence in the region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration claims operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The stated mission of the force deployment has since morphed into a quarantine aimed at disrupting the country's crude oil shipments.

Online Video and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks indicated that US forces are ready to expand the operations by attacking objectives within Venezuela, a tactic that would in theory require congressional approval.

Online video shared on social media on 24 December appeared to show an explosion reportedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. However, the video or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An official from Trump's team allegedly informed a media outlet that the president was referring to a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Ongoing Strategic Situation

The Maduro government has remained silent on the alleged strike Trump described. Furthermore, there have been no independent reports from Venezuela concerning it.

The deployment of US military in the area – a position certain officials have called a naval quarantine – constitutes the largest naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Officials have avoided from labeling the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 troops are stationed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to implement existing economic sanctions.
